I once had to do this twice in one day! Lucky for me, the wing window--this was several vehicles ago--was a bit wonky in its frame from the time I tried to break it with a rock to get into the locked car... Didn't work, but the frame still was bent enough to get the coat hanger in!

It is a good idea to have a cheap and simple cell phone on hand for emergencies. I encourage you to get one, a pre-paid setup with TMobile, maybe, that you can buy a few hours of use time, and then only have to put more money into it when that time is used up. That way you are not only able to call out for help if you should need it, but your kids can call you if they have an emergency.
Mine was out of power, unfortunately--needs a fresh battery, I think, that holds a charge longer than one call. Lucky this time that Charlie had his powered up!
Meanwhile... I generally cook by the seat o' my pants: have the appropriate seasonings and ingredients, and slap 'em together, cook 'em for a while...
Needless to say, I don't bake. That requires recipes and precision.

would have done this when I got the truck, had it been not exorbitantly expensive. AAA isn't cheap, but covers more possible go-wrongs.

Now get an extra key made and have a special place to hang it...
(unless your car has an electronic key, which would be too expensive)

I'd have been S.O.L. - no cell phone to call AAA. Nice to have such
