Working in politics or a political job can be really fun......I was lucky to work in the Patronage Office of The Governor's office of Kentucky for 3 years.  Our office had steel doors with 2 actual padlocks on the door.  We approved jobs,  vendors,  promotions, and anything that the Governor wanted to be done.  This was before a merit system existed.

We would go from the Gov. Office to various departments dealing with job positions promotions/demotions.......

We started out working with the county our college was in....and the state party apparatus... It was a blast.  I made it to State Chairman of The College Republicans.  Karl Rove was chairman of the Texas College Republicans at the same time.........and then the "he doesn't date girls thingy' popped up.....and that was the end of it all.   "POP".

I'm sure you will be thinking a lot about the pros and cons and be observant to all possibilities.

In any event, the future looks good.

One thing to consider about changing jobs - esp. in the case of

a job in the office of an elected official. How much would your current employer, since it's a family business, be troubled by your absence? Could they plug someone else into your slot without a lot of inconvenience? And another thing is that your candidate might not be re-elected and the job would only be yours for about four years. Of course you'd learn a lot and there might be steps into other opportunities. It's a lot to think about.

I have never joined a political party...mainly because I put travel first. Some countries can be suspicious of politics from other countries.
