Animals can behave in what seems an irrational way. A man once told me he was going into a barn and a rat stood in the middle and dared him to pass. It was of course protecting its young.

About ten years ago P.D. had a raccoon in his yard that acted very pecurlarly and tried to attack him.  Son is very kind hearted with animals but he was afraid of that one and beat it with the spade he was using for yard work and then buried it.  When I heard about it I told him he should have called animal control or something to have it tested for rabies.
