I love to hear your reminiscences!  Kids that listen to stories, who are read to, learn to read to each other, too.

As a child in northern California, I loved the evenings when the air was cool and the sidewalks wonderfully warm on bare feet! In the daytime, sidewalks and black paved streets were too hot for bare feet! Summer temps there were very hot... 90s and hundreds, probably, and I loved to come into the house and stand under the swamp cooler that blew cold air, until they made me go outside again, claiming I would get sick from the cold air.

Air conditioning , no I am  still relying on a small fan. Well we never get weather like this. We did when the Romans were here , we must have because they grew grapes. Now we can grow grapes again, but will it be the same next year? It usually rains quite a lot, We wish it would now . Delightful photo of children using their imagination. Stories were really brought alive by this method.

TAPS - Cute photo

I'm so glad it didn't get too hot where I grew up. Well usually it wasn't too hot. Have had a heat stroke twice, I don't do well in it. And you, tap dancing in the heat! Bless you!

Great photo - your sis was a cutie. I remember the ice box before

the fridge, too - although in western Washington where I grew up it never got as sweltering hot as here in the Midwest - and we needed a blanket at night most of the summer.

You all did a great job figuring out things without air conditioning.
