you know pat, first off, why spend the money on an employee when you can get it for free, that money could be put to some good use i am sure. and i agree about volunteers do it for love while if there is a paycheck involved it ruines the job. i sure hope your letter puts things back to where they should be. sad world when things like this happen.

I have seen it all my life. People volunteer to help make a community project thrive, and it does, then along comes a big idea to turn those volunteer jobs into paid jobs. The people who have given their time and made their morning into part of their life are turfed out without ceremony. I bet you givers were never even given a thank you morning tea!
Next you find fees are added to being part of the center. fees that rise and rise finally the whole thing is likely to collapse. I am sad.
