Re: TAPS,

There are actually two Hayden Planetariums, named for the same Hayden, but the one in Boston is pronounced Hi-den... My Dad, Dr Kenneth Franklin, was the first PhD astronomer at the one in New York that is part of the American Museum of Natural History when he joined the staff in 1957 or 6 or 8...

It was a wonderful building, Art Deco in design, and I am still so sad it was torn down to make way for the new Rose Center!

I had the pleasure upon meeting Neil DeGrasse Tyson to be able to tell him, "You've got my father's job!" It is quite true: Dad's intent in that job was to make astronomy accessible and fascinating to non-scientists.

I came here yesterday and got lost in New York following you around.  Then I had to look up the original Hayden Observatory and remember tales you told of playing there.  Then I tried to remember the name of your father, and I couldn't.  You must have told me at least three times but I don't know where things go that I think I will never forget.
