I think you really need a goose's egg they can be mounted on a base and painted artistically. We used to boil ours with beetroot I cannot remember eating them.

I still hope to make an exploration trip to Australia, to spend several weeks there, but I am not sure when that will be practical.

The yellows and blues look pretty good -
but if they're not edible, then you don't have to worry about getting tired of egg salad after all.
