About the solar flare and generation of ignoramuses - I've thought for 25 years or so that such a situation, or even less devasting, would put 90% of people in jeopardy as they have no clue how to plant, nurture and harvest, how to take care of a flock of laying hens, - how to make clothes or do without machines. It can get mighty hungry if there's no access to grocery stores, refrigeration, - even running water...

And yes we are in that same position.  The difference for me is that we're on the border between Zero tech and All Tech.   What scares me is that we have surrendered to technology.  I can't comprehend why we allow the kids to have their phones at school with them.  Many school systems have dropped cursive writing.....no longer teaching real math.

Here's a premise....what if we have an EMP or Solar Flare wipe out all of the electronics in the country......we'll have a generation of ignoramuses.....

about how much better it was when they were young. These days some of us look back fondly at our own good old days when things were new and interesting. I think the social media, the fast pace of news reporting, etc., tend to "age" us experience-wise much faster than we were able to take in new perspectives/opinions, and so we get pulled in to FB, etc., in search of the new. Our species survives because we learn, which may explain how social media hooks us - along with the dopamine buzz.
