I, too, have learned the hard way the necessity of wearing gloves, even for dead-heading the flowers. Hope your bite/sting isn't too serious.

i do wear gloves and then somrthing tough needs opening or pulling out of the garden and off they come Sigh

Wearing gloves is a good idea even if there's not something that bites
or stings - lots of rough edges and sharp bits. I hope your dove family is very happy and you get a picture or two this year.
