My grand-uncle told us a little about WWI. It was a lot of marching, like your poem says, according to what he experienced. Hope that phone rings...

War stories by survivors are told quietly in plain words.
But young men still lust after the glory, the distance, the victory. I really liked this recounting of how it was. It takes all talents to hold the territory.

Nowadays, millennials often find themselves not knowing someone who served during a war. Things have changed a lot from the days of drafts...The waiting is truly the hardest part.
