This is an absolutely fantastic post. I did not know most of this and now consider my education to have been sorely lacking. lol. Think of the work genealogists must do to recalculate corrected dates of British ancestors' births. All I know is I that used to get Washington and Lincoln's birthdays off, and I loved it! Then they took one away and told us the one-day holiday remaining would be called President's Day.

P.S. We were taught this very lesson at dear old Mossyrock School
about the calendar changes and George Washington's actual birthday - always good to review and remember. :)

Occurs to me, in light of how little is actually accomplished
by presidents in the digital age, that any day off at all is an appropriate do-nothing celebration. Also President's day is a good day to buy a new mattress.
