I know what you mean about the effect the grawlix has. I remember online people would circumvent community standards by typing @$$ and 5h!+.

When I censor in my writing, I prefer to use dashes.

something to think about here. I use Grawlix (a new word for me BTW) it some how feels that I can get my feelings out there strong...but remain Mother's daughter. LOL. I did not even know many words existed until nearly 30.

Yes well if one is with others who swear consistently it becomes so boring that one has to use more adjectives to qualify the profane word. I found that out as a conscript ' I am fed up with this effing efeffing  and I effeninly will be effeffimg more effemingly in the effeming future . Excuse spelling.

I don't remember ever seeing the word 'grawlix' although the use of

substitute symbols is quite familiar. I know it's not really ladylike but at times I use profane words for emphasis or clarity.

TAPS

Thank you for telling me the name of what those symbols are called when used in writing in lieu of profanity. I am guilty of using them at times. We were forbidden to use profanity as kids. Actually, there was none spoken in our home so we didn't know of it, until - well, until we visited relatives who were quite accomplished swearers. Is that a word? lol!
