kabu, haiku went perfectly with your post, we complain here when the weather goes into the 20-30's i can imagine how cold it gets up there.  i happen to like the cold weather, if you are prepared with warm clothing and can afford the heating bill.

Yes that's cold! I had to scrape ice off my car windows this morning at 8:15, probably only for the second time this winter.  We have been very lucky to get away with it in the southeast.

Our trash ends up either in a landfill or going to a waste to energy facility. There is some debating going on about the merits of waste to energy facilities in Maryland.

Definitely sounds like a good day to stay indoors.

I bought a pair of gloves from Amazon that are used for folk handling frozen goods.

Not very expensive but ideal for those outdoor jobs, don't try picking blackberries with them just use for rubbish moving. Funny there do not seem to be many birds here I wonder if yours move into populated areas as a lot of folk feed them along now and in the spring when they really need food for the young ones, folk think they can manage because it is warmer.

That severe cold reminded me of the mountataineering training days in the Himalayas; so bitter was the cold that I thought that I'll not find one finger of my foot when I opened my shoes.

Not to change the subject...

BUt I need to ask you a question.....Since you're from Australia.....did you ever go to New Zealand?  Since Joe Love died 7 years,  I have been enchanted with New Zealand....Since the Lord of the Rings Movie series was filmed there, it seems to be calling me.

I actually think I could live there.....

Brrrr! It isn't that bad here, but still not inviting.

Kids over at St. B's were out on the playground kicking a soccer ball around in their shirt sleeves yesterday - but there was a sharp wind and light flurries today.

Oh, boy, that IS cold. I remember when I was quite small they had these things called incinerators and my g-uncle would burn paper products and newspapers in them. They outlawed them due to pollution. Do be careful in that freeze, dear S. Soul Sister!
