Re:
Yes Taps when we delivered to the villages especially one which was said to be as high as our town's steeple, the weather could be remarkably different. My Dad used to say we had better put the chains on 1947 was a killer.

Re: RPresta
Thankyou RP. I guess some were not treated as pets but as workers.I am trying to make older poems more readable if I think they are worth editing.

Driving in the snow with Uncle Albert would make for a great experience...And what a wonderful embrace it could be.

Good to hear from Chumpet again.
The nails in the horse shoes reminded me of the days before snowtires when we had to put chains on the tires and then remove them when the snow was beginning to melt. What a drag. If one of them broke apart, the pieces of chain would beat your car to death.

How I agree with Pat...is the human condition to make life miserable as we can for ourselves and others?

I learn so much from Uncle Albert's memories - I never before heard about
nailing traction nails into horse's hoofs so they could manage on icy roads. It's perfectly logical when you think about it. So much more work to accomplish the daily dozen in his day - we sometimes take for granted the way things are mechanically easier now and complain about relatively minor inconveniences.
