Re: Kabu, PS...

You can also have fun with it, asking questions, asking for jokes, riddles, for Alexa to sing you a song... There are tons of things you can ask for, like inspirational quote-of-the-day sorta things, also role-playing games which probaby would not be up your street.

You can also order purchases:  Alexa, buy paper towels.  I guess you need to have an Amazon acct, possibly Amazon Prime which I already do, but if you don't want that, I don't know if there are other apps to order stuff through.  (There are stories about the little kid who had Alexa order her a doll house, got a hugely expensive one... but they aren't true.)

You can use it as a timer and also as an alarm clock--just tell it what time you want it to wake you.

Re: Kabu,

It is this: https://www.pcmag.com/review/343443/amazon-echo-dot

I don't use mine as some do, to hook up the the 'smart' features of the house. First, my house is not that smart, and though it could be educated with plug-ins, perhaps, I don't need to become vulnerable to anyone who wants to hack into my house, the lights, thermostat, burglar alarm systems... any of that stuff some people like to have.

I use it to find out the time in the middle of the night  (Alexa, what time is it) and to get the weather report, news reports, those ambient sounds and music.

I subscribed to a music service so I can get Galway or ask for Judy Collins, or ask for medieval music, or whatever, without having to find my cds or buy new ones. It can connect to radio stations, too.

Besides the device, you need wifi to connect it to the world.

I used to love James Galway on radio - nothing more poignant than

some of those old tunes played the way he did them.  Thank you for the reminder.

Re: CCT,

I never made the connection about walking in the snow, but you could be right!

Some of those programs were real gems. I am glad you have a good memory it does make viewing rather more homely. Your family does appear to be quite talented. Charlie likes walking ,perhaps it was because you walked him out in the snow one evening when he was a little boy.
