Love the chest and the history.  Thanks for sharing.

Looks fine to me too. I wouldn't try to 'update' it.

make it just as it was all fresh again and fill it with your life for someone to go through one day.

It brings back a lot of great memories for you. That would be great if you got it restored.

Well your granddad looks quite smart a pity to loose old photos. Give it a good rub of polish.

Well then..if you aren't touching yours then I'm not touching mine.

...you know because I always wanted to be you!    lol

That's what my grandma called it.

Re: RPresta

lol, it's okay.  I don't mind advice.

There was a time when I had everything from my mom and my grandparents!  My brothers took what they wanted and I was left with the rest.  Just too much stuff!

Re: blackcat

btw...it's funny you call your mom's chest a "hope" chest.  I call it that too!  But when I use that term around others they are like, "what's that?"  lol

Re: blackcat

Thanks.  You can't see but there are some scratches and scuffs near the bottom of the chest.  But yes, my chest has that cedar smell, as well.  I love that smell!

Noooo! Do not have it refinished! All the experts say it diminishes the value by half! Oops, it's your, not mine. Forgot! LOL! What a shame the contents are gone! They would have been a treasure, in a treasure chest. Well, you're lucky you have it. Take care of it and enjoy it.

looks fine to me how it is.  I have my mom's cedar hope chest... it still smells like cedar inside.
