Ohhh I saw this too and sent the picture on to a few friends.  Makes me cry every time I look at it!

My sister lived through Andrew where it hit hardest, in Homestead. They wrapped up in oriental carpets and stayed in the windowless bathroom.  A peek outside after the roof went revealed the house contents swirling around as if in a washing machine...  They all survived, and moved to Texas.

even in times of peril one can think of something positive. Great story about you and Peter. and yes I want to let those birds inside I am afraid.

I have had the displeasure of being on vacation in Florida and in the potential path of Hurricane Andrew... and also being under mandatory evacuation for Hurricane Sandy.   Both were terrifying experiences... though the second was much worse.

I have not stopped watching coverage in FL.

Great photo and great post. Hope everyone, all creatures great and small, will be okay.

Poor old things, I hope they survived. Makes one realize how lucky to live in a moderately calm area.

I guess while we're praying for everyone to be safe in Florida, we

need to include the wild things - which have no choice but to hunker down and wait. I saw a video of zoo workers taking their flock of flamingos to an interior bathroom area - Hoping they all come through it ok. Love the idea of you and Peter beating the odds at all the mini-golf places.

TAPS

What a picture! And one would hope that whoever took it took those two birds in - but the window probably could not be opened...I have been in heavy storms at sea, but never in a hurricane. A few years ago I experienced the remnants of a hurricane that came up the coast to Nova Scotia, which was bad enough. And there was a stronger one that hit Halifax a few years earlier and devastated beautiful Point Pleasant Park, which still hasn't fully recovered...
