Re:

They are very big.  Once in a while ducks will stop on the lake and they are quite small in comparison.  They don't stay long.  We used to have a duck pond out back but they went somewhere else.

Re: chuck_ibrahim

They have baby chicks every season around the lake.  I never get too close.

Re: Kabu

I love them in the air flying in their "V" and honking as they go.  I dislike them in the roads.  Groups of them waddle across, taking their own sweet time, looking at you like you are the intruder and they don't pay any heed to a honking horn.

Don't even think about getting closer if they have baby chicks. I have seen it one-time and couldn't believe my eyes

We have a fair amount of them that hang out at the school behind Location B when it rains. They are big.

Good example Taps. Too many of anything and it becomes a problem.

TAPS

Love your poem! But I love our Canada geese as well - our most beautiful ambassadors to the world. And even ambassadors must poop...

With several lakes and lots of farm ponds in and around this town,

we have a large population of Canada geese - who do just as you describe in your poem. I've often wondered - especially when I lived in Seattle - how it is that more of them don't end up as food for the homeless, since they are often written up as a nuisance.

Oh yes, I have a family member from there. And they are huge geese!
