When staying with friends in Troy, we did a tour od Detroit. It was so sad to see all the once-beautiful houses now empty or being left to run down.

Appalling! I stopped in Detroit once on the way to Ann Arbor - I had forgotten to fill up in Windsor, on my side of the border. I was driving around and finally ended up at a gas station where a very big and very nice guy expressed his surprise to see a white man in his neighborhood, but he understood when he saw my license plate. After he filled me up he drew for me the quickest route out of there, back to the highway...
