Well when I went to school I think all the young teachers could spell was Yanks . The kids could say 'Got any gum chum?' A friend of mine was taken on by a chemist. When asked to write a note to another chemist. He put I shall see you on Wensday I have my moter.
We could all sing There were rats, rats big as blinking cats in the quartermasters stores but that was for training in the air-raid shelter.

Just like when you were in school and a cute guy gave you one of
"those" looks, and for the rest of the class you couldn't think of anything else, especially the grammar test. Present tense? In those days we'd get into future perfect tense, imagining holding hands in the movies or being the envy of other girls as you sat in the burger shack with Mr. Wonderful, or walking down the aisle...
