Re: I don't think we've ever planted potatoes intending for them to be

Well Pat one has to move them into a greenhouse, but usually if they are early enough they stay protected in the pots until needed. It is all a racket really to sell the containers etc. Oh! dear I wish you had not admitted that. They can be quite jealous.

Re:

I suppose one started as a little boy and it is ingrained in my little brain. If Archie packed it in I would probably sell up and get a nice little cottage in the country. And raffle the cat with free tickets.

Re: Taps

No it is ridiculous, but it is only  a money making stunt.

Re: Rpresta

Thank you RP. i still feel a bit dizzy, Archie said it is something going around , but he always says that. I have to smile my sister moans the fact that he seems able to see a doctor anytime he wants to. I am waiting 6 weeks, but I know one of the surgeries closed down and we hope it will re-open.

Re:anobanerjee

Well Sir I do not know how many Rs make an English pound but they are One pound and fifty here for a kilo. Sadly we cannot grow them through Autumn as they usually become stricken with blight and of course need to be heated.

CCT

CCT, please plant tomatoes for me for Christmas.  Here the prices have shot up to Rs 100 a kilo, and still there are buyers. I hear entire sackfuls of tomatoes are being looted by thugs from the market.  Having them shipped will be cheaper. Poor me!

I don't like Christmas in July. It's for winter. You should ease off the work a bit perhaps. Nice, cute poem of a dialogue with phantoms.

I don't much people planning for Christmas in the heat of summer.  It some how takes away from the specialness of Christmas in December by getting everything done early.

I don't think we've ever planted potatoes intending for them to be

ready for Christmas - because usually by Dec. 25 the ground is frozen or it's miserable and cold outside with freezing rain, etc... My family's rule was to plant potatoes on or right after St. Patrick's day, so they'd have time to produce edible spuds by the first frost of autumn.  I like your story poem - have had "flirtations" with invisibles myself from time to time.
