I can sympathize but we had a palm tree dropping huge fronds onto the skylights and nearly smashing them as it's roots back up the pipes and the tree had to go away forever. It was a danger. Yes, the birdies lived there, and this year they returned to find it gone, but they have relocated to other trees. Anyway, we have a delightful owl pair in some huge Italian Cypress trees and they are such fun.

I know Ciel the trouble is the roots can wreck the house foundations. It is a problem that creeps up on one. There is no easy answer, but it is quite disturbing.

I also find it very difficult to cut a tree - any tree. Makes me mad
when the power company comes through and trims branches off the trees where they overhang the power lines. I understand the logic and the danger of power outages when there are ice storms or high winds, but it still upsets me. I know you'll miss your Chinese elm. Hope they plant another tree.

I cannot stand to see trees being cut down. and I agree a new one should always be planted.
