Yes it is so aggravating to go to an office or on the phone, and have to deal with someone who speaks poorly or with a heavy accent.  Last month,  I took my 90-year old mother to renew her drivers license,  and we got it done,  but the clerk was a black girl who was a very sloppy talker,  and I had to 'translate' almost everything she said for my Mom. Why do they put people like this in jobs where they deal with the public??  Outrageous!

I am glad you got your license renewed,  it is very important to have wheels and independence!  Cheers

Well we just send a photo, I don't think they ask for a new one very often, but then I can't look any worse. I would love to see RPs though..

Things are never dull at the DMV. That is a pain that they would have someone who is not speaking English. I am sure that I would have had one of them that I fumbled to remember.

A man came out of the diner. He said he stopped driving when he was 97 love.

In IllinoisI think you have to go every year for the renewal...

DMV visits are always "fun."  Getting pics taken also. And it seems to me they hire specific types of slightly hostile individuals in need of diction training to do the face-to-face with drivers.  But all that's worth it to keep the sense of independence and the possibility of hitting the open road if the mood strikes.

It was funny the way you told it, but a very unpleasant experience! When I had my picture taken recently for my new passport I too had a broken-English photographer, who said "No smile". I smiled of course, and he said, rather loud, "I say no smile." So I made a face, and he said, "No,no, no" and something else that was unintelligible...I finally relented and he took the picture that I don't like...And why do they hire these people that deal with the public but have barely minimal language skills?

OMG, birthday girl, I just went through that so I really can identify with you! I laughed because I do appreciate exactly what you are saying. What a great post! I had to renew 2 days after my back attacked me; I couldn't stand without a cane but had to, and stand for the entire retake of the written. I had literally ran a comb through my bedhead, wore no make-up on, and when I got the orders to back up to the wall/blue curtain, I didn't care that I was being shot! Congrats on passing and going through all that, sweet lady!!

I hate getting my license renewed.  But I must say that my photo came out pretty good this year!  I'm glad that you still have your independence!

Re: -blackcat

Missouri has always done it this way as long as I can remember.

LOL... wow, that's awful but a great story.  do they only retest you at a certain age?   I usually just need to have my photo retaken, and that's bad enough.  LOL
