Re: Ciel
Yes Ciel strawberries need tons of water. When your mum made those pickles I bet they did not last long.

I had three little bright red berries yesterday off the strawberry starts I have hung in a basket over the deck where they experience afternoon sun and no bunny. In the hot dry air, especially when the winds blow, those three little plants take a lot of watering!
My mom pickled sliced red onions in a diluted vinegar flavored with tarragon. Now, those were tasty on a burger!

Well it is a dodgy job growing tomatoes outside here Pat, they very often are inflicted with potato blight. Another problem if it is dry the birds peck the strawberries for moisture.

Re: RPresta
Well I expect you can get loads of ripe grapes in California. They all can't go into wine.
Yes RP the present is the past so quickly these days.

Don't see why not Sir. After all there is apricot chutney. The trouble is the past slips back so quickly.

I'm sure the onion chutneys must taste quite tangy, my mother is an expert in making varieties of chutneys. A well done write and yes, to live in the past is to live in blames. I wonder if we could have strawberry chutney!

there are wild strawberries here everywhere but they get eaten before they ever ripen. I just leave them for the critters, along with the wild apples.

I once had a row of strawberries along the back fence. What the
robins didn't get, the neighbor kids did as they took a shortcut through the alley.
But the tomatoes made it into red spaghetti sauce.
