Re: Re: Kabu
It was a bear and each one was picked off cleanly and gone...there were paw marks and scat. And what really amazes me is that people take video of bears in people's gardens and they walk very carefully not to harm the plants. All it wanted was the tomatoes and then left. I didn't mind.

You are such a card. HaHaHa to the first part.
I love the rest--You must have been grinning all the time you wrote it.

Re: meme
Well mneme parents sometimes are rather reluctant to reveal the old times. It is sad really because most folk were not very well off and of course there are always little things best forgotten. Or are thought to be best forgotten, which is funny really.

Re:Pat
Good Friday was the day here Pat, but in the old days we had much harsher weather.
I expect it was the only day off at the time. I agree we are all to set in our ways to put up with ourselves.

Hi Justi ,I think a woman wrote a book about it and then decided that she should practice what she preached.

Re: Kabu
I can't remember a bear eating your tomatoes, probably a squirrel. Well of course if one is married one does not have the option.

Well I have not grown potatoes for a long time, but they are so nice when they are babies. Yes I must try to think of a new trend.

Re: adnohr
Well of course the seed firms do not tell folk that old method. Arthur said they use to grow potaoes in the lab ,just from a chit. Well it would not be everyone's choice but it might appeal to a Nun. Hm' I am too wise to disagree or make explanations.

Brought back memories of growing up on the farm - hauling the potatoes from the cellar bin , cutting them into pieces so that each had an eye, then walking fields and fields behind the boys who were digging the holes where we would plant those pieces so that we would eat all winter. I'm leaning towards Pat-B's comment on your poem, and Annicita's comment cracked me up!

I don't think I've ever grown potatoes. I enjoyed your poem. Quite a different idea. LOL!

I must say that I would rather be married to my Wiley...he is more fun than I am.
I grew a tomoatoe plant last year and a big bear ate all of the tomatoes.

Our rule of thumb was to plant potatoes on St. Patrick's day. That was,
in the Pacific Northwest, the time when hard freezes were over for the season and the little sprouts could safely poke through the topsoil. I quoted that to folks in this neck of the woods - central Midwest, and they thought it was far too late in the season to allow for the tubers to mature.
I love your self-marriage poem - seems the idea is being reported as a trend. But since I know myself, I've decided against the idea. Not ready to make the necessary concessions and myself can sometimes lose patience with me...

CCT
I love how potatoes and many other plants reproduce themselves. As to marrying myself that would be adultry or some such plus the fact I did much better by marrying the man I have than to have married myself. Always love your work.

I threw some tater eyes in a bin of soil last summer, and added a few more a couple of months ago. Nature seems to be taking care of the watering. Probably I will add some more as potatoes in the pantry go green from being forgotten too long. Someday I will dump out the whole thing and see what happened.
I will have to give some thought to that self-marriage trend.

Hello CCT, I've been catching up with your poems, they are such good stories. I'm the eldest of four and I know just what you mean about younger siblings not knowing so much about the family. In ours, however, my younger sister seems to remember things I have no recollection of at all. Perhaps it's my memory going - lol.
