That was the way we washed clothes when I was little....wringer washing machine and roller tub rinsing....hanging on a clothes line with wooden clothespins. Big job every Monday morning. I was not exactly fond of that day.

Not the norm. But when a girl got "in trouble" there was often a quick marriage. One I remember everybody gossiping about the hospital chaplain married the couple while she was in labor. There was a saying in Lewis County in those days if a young couple was married six months and there was no baby, they must be sterile...
