Your kitty situation reminds me of a commercial on TV this week. First scene shows a guy getting busy with a girlfriend, looks over her shoulder to find the cat’s eyes staring hypnotically. Next scene, he’s in the kitchen, pants around his ankles, watching the cat eat from a bowl he’s just set down.

Cats are professional opportunists
and many cats I've known are especially affectionate and appreciative when they are hungry.
