Oh this is so nice. Our present kitty is great with her hands. She is not one to allow you to hold her for long, but she uses her paws to carass you, spank, and needless to say to claw. All her hand movements are easily readible.

Well I suppose dogs and cats don't make much noise unless they want something. They observe and obviously learn.Hegehogs seem a bit dim.

That is very cool! I don't think I have ever paid close attention to animals. My kids had a variety of them. I must confess the quarter horses, Christopher had as a youth, scared me to no end because they were so big! sam

Our non-verbal is much more honest than our words, since we're
mostly unaware of our nonverbal - and of course our doggies read sign language...

I agree. It can be a little hectic when you only have 2 hands but 3 doggies claiming pats at the same time...

Loved this post! So true. Sam, "my" GSD, followed my hand (and body) movements closely; I had trained him with many anyway. If I moved my eyes left or right, he would turn to that direction. He understood so many human hand commands and body gestures; whether he obeyed them was another thing though. He even seemed to know if I was sad, and would pad over to me and put his head in my lap then. When I was really happy, he was extra bouncy and seemed to feel it; to know it! I could go on ad infinitum, but yes, it's a delight to contemplate our pets' understanding and observations of us, and our hands.

great post. it is my belief that virtually any animal or bird or fish that you spend time with will amaze how much they communicate with us. And they very seldom argue. LOL
