Re: Re:Aba says WOW Presta

Firstly, I am happy to see you so pour over the paragraphs, and then your queries in discord (excellent); 'God is not passionless but quite the reverse', 'Humans are made in the image of God, but that likeness is not equal to a God' and that perhaps the likeness is in consciousness. Why do good and evil exist, and why do we have a conscience?

To answer these, I must admit that these views not mine own but as said by Aristotle. I also cited from the Upanishads that corroborates Aristotle's, also encompassing the beliefs and arguments of the monists, dualists, theists, atheists, agnostics, pantheists, and what not. Each having their own gems of wisdom, like the arrangement of a garland, no single flower can be considered any the less than the other. It encompasses Christian belief too, the ones you cite from Biblical sources. So He cannot be passionless, of course so. The God of the Jews is an angry God, and I have heard that he has an angry nose too. Of the Mohammedans, it is a forgiving God, compassionate (which means that one can go on committing sins after sins, yet he will be forgiven). Likewise, you have the God of the Parsees, a happy God, and so on ...

Man is the highest form of His creations, thus, created in his likeness. Man can not be God but he can be like God, in his godliness. In the Genesis we find that angels feeling jealous on the elevation of the son of God to the throne in heaven. From jealousy sprang revolt, from revolt, sinful actions, resulting in their fall into Hades. This was even before mankind came into being. The existence of both good and evil comes from the words, God and Devil. The question arises that if God is all-powerful, then why does devil seems to be winning most of the times? So the devil is an equal and opposite power to God. And then, we cannot have a lame-legged God. That too would be unacceptable. So the good and the bad were to live in coexistence. Without the opposite there can be no life. Men have a conscience so that he tread the path in goodness discerning what all he should avoid for happiness to reign. That is his free will, God made him independent, and that is why we see most of the time His not intervening. When He doesn't, we say that He is not. His Isness is in the form of all-powerful Energy that governs, presides over every Law of the universe. It is immanent. Seen from that viewpoint, He is very personal, active, benevolent, participative, and loving. God gave man Conscience so that he takes the independent choice to be always judicious. A lot more can be said, but I give a rest to my tongue, now. You raise very intelligent questions, and for that a very big ThankYou.

Re:Aba

But this is your dream. And the greatest gift is getting to have a job you love. So happy for you. Now to answer. I went paragraph by paragraph, but to read below sounds disjointed. Sorry for that.

For those who believe in a God, or gods, Source, or Supreme Being, the following: I would place said God above all things, including man and woman. And, for every action there is a reaction. "For God so loved the world...," (John 13:16) would indicate a God who is not passionless but quite the reverse. Humans are made "in the image of God," (here I could site several biblical sources), but that likeness is not equal to a God, pehaps the likeness is in consciousness, and humans will not be perfect, as only a God is perfection. God, I would guess, can choose to make things either perfect or imperfect. Why not consider harmony in both God concepts: Eternal Energy and the God of poets? Perhaps the heart and the head are equal distance to the soul, assuming one has a soul, thus the conflicted theories. Philosophical inquiries create energy, which may warm us, but ultimately the answers remain mutable, as does life. What we should focus on is this, is there good and is there evil, and if so, why? And why is good considered a better choice by most. Why do we have a conscience?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Aba

Oh, I see. One job I always wanted to do. God gave me His boon. He always does. As you would perhaps wish to know, I never attended any formal English class lessons.  And the selection procedure was not without stiff competition.

Interesting post. Food both for mind and soul but for me God is a personal friend and guide, invisible yet someone whose presence can be felt the moment you lower your eyes.

When I went to shobana's poem to comment, I saw your comment to her!

Quite an interesting juxtaposition here Aba. God walked the earth long before man to beautify it then came woman and poets and all that stands for creativity and creation. This is a good read and enjoyed it thoroughly my friend.

Re: Re: Re: Hi dear Kabu,

Well, that was a good one. I love it when one takes a stand just for the sake of a debate. They do add to one's dimensions.

Re: Re: Hi dear Kabu,

The 6 semesters I did at University in Sydney was called Ethics but actually it was the philosophers and the gray areas of life. where you can argue different siddes for hours. I loved it. I loved like you taking a stand perhaps I didn't believe in and write or debate it until , well some students disliked me.

Yes, I surmised as much. That's why I am still thinking...

Re: Aba

I am happy my dear Presta to find you ruminate seriously. To my way of thinking science and religion are both necessary for mankind. Likewise, religion too, has two divisions - for those who think and for others who feel; in other words, the one without faith, the other, with. The former argue, the latter, believe. There are no wrongs or no rights. As for the Spirit Soul, it is ever unborn, but has an immanent existentialist quality about it. For people of faith, it is indeed a personalised God, a kind and warm and loving God; active, as you say. Passive, cold, unfeeling for those who believe God to be the Primal Energy. And then, there are Monists, dualists, pant heists, or what you will. I do so much enjoy such discussions.  I quite anticipated, I must say, and that is why I topped it up with the two miserable polar bears freezing in the cold.

Re: Hi dear Kabu,

I must first apologise for my being engaged with things that did not allow me to read, write or comment For quite a few days.

Actually I like to dabble with philosophies and ideas that I myself do not find agreeable. Blame this to my intestand nature, ha ha  you may detect this in my polar bear anecdote, the exercise is, maybe, nothing more than just to keep oneself warm. No doubt, Aristotle is one of the greatest thinkers the of the world even as he f the day.

Aba

Dear Aba, I am going to ruminate on this a bit. Who can say what a God thinks, feels, sees, or knows, or how (s)he moves, for who among us has seen God (with the exception of Tommy Chong perhaps in Up in Smoke)? LOL!

When the secular and the spiritual merge intellects with the spirit and the heart, a soul is born! Perhaps. And there you have the birth a new poem I should write... Passive or active, which is right? And ultimately, your thought problem is does it matter, and why? The answer, imho, lies within, within your own polar bears; that is, who gave us warm hearts? And to those who do not have warm hearts, why is that?

Now you have got me thinking and disagreeing and ..

I don't think that I have any problem that God is the epicenter, the eye of the cyclone, the fulcrum of the Universe, of all things seen and unseen, of all that is past, is present, and will be.

But without feeling ...No!

This is where Science which is like all of us, trying to put God in a box.

That center of all is very aware I know, of what creation and chaos, breaking down and rebuilding is. Feels and can be moved to change something. That makes me feel totally humble but I think and feel and somehow know that everything concerns the creator the epicenter nature....God whatever way one wants to describe.

I have asked and received myself. Not quite as I expected always for sure, no in a far better way than my mind could devise.

Is the woman walking down the street unknowing of what is happening along her path. Can she be moved to feelings. YES.

maybe anger at intrusion, maybe tolerance may be even to compassion. So then is the God of my understanding. No for me, God is not an unknowing vacuum at the center. God is love for without love I am nothing.
