Body Guards on Church entrances it sounds weird.

You would not believe how relieved we all felt when over the radio we heard that America was at war against Germany. We did actually feel despondent after seeing all the defeated soldiers come staggering back from Dunkirk. The logs on wheels to push across roads was laughable really. A special force was formed to annihilate those in local office as it was thought they would give away secrets. Perhaps we do not feel we have our backs to the wall yet Naut. The Canadians were here small forces at that time, but they

acted as though there was an army of them throughout the country. I remember folk saying lock your pigs the Canadians were stealing them. We must have thought there was a regiment of them in our small town but later learned  it was very few indeed.

Re: Actually the Hitler-Nazis did try. It was called the blitz, when V1 rockets

Pat, I know that whole era very well, and I know they never actually did try. The preparations for an invasion of Britain was called off after the German air force lost the Battle of Britain, which involved the RAF and not the Americans, who weren't in the war until '41. The bombing, the buzz bombs and the V1 and V2 rockets were not employed in preparation of an invasion. By that time the German General Staff  had long since realized an invasion of Britain could not possibly succeed...

Actually the Hitler-Nazis did try. It was called the blitz, when V1 rockets

rained down on London, and their air force had to be repelled by the Americans and the Brits. The buzz bombs rained hellfire and nobody in that city escaped the terror.

The fourth paragraph of this post is so important to know, to understand and to keep in mind.
