Case in point.....

For example,  as to Rorty being both symptom and cause,  take the general obsessive fantasy of love as being the do-all,  be-all,  end-all,  as expressed by the slogans  "love is all you need",  "love conquers hate",  "God is love",  etc., etc.

Rorty did not originate this idea,  but he supported it,  reinforced it,  and tried to give it the force of law or tyranny at the end of his life,  as I explained in post #3,  before this post.  No one else besides me,  that I know of,  has made this point.  This point originates here with me.

Writing love into a law,  giving it the force of tyranny,  is the next logical step in the insane logic of liberalism.  Luckily,  it was perhaps an afterthought at the end of Rorty's life,  which was in an interview or conversation he had with someone.  I have not read enough of Rorty,  nor do I want to,  to see how little or how much this idea permeated his writings.

Yes, Rorty is indeed a symptom.  But he was also a cause.  He was one of several philosophers who have contributed harmful ideas to society.  Those harmful ideas form the general malaise of which you speak,  which is actually quite easy to describe,  in one word.  That word is liberal.....  which of course,  like any imporant social concept,  requires volumes to properly analyze and understand.

As I mentioned, I read some of Rorty's stuff years ago. I was mainly bored - I did not find one single truly original thought! To me the guy is a symptom - his thinking is symptomatic of a general cultural malaise that defies description - let alone analysis - certainly not in the framework of a Blogit comment...
