Another thought

The trouble with Rorty is that,  even if we discredit him personally,  the ideas of his philosophy are not limited to him.  They are widespread,  polluting and crippling liberal minds everywhere,  whether they ever heard of Richard Rorty or not.

Like being plugged in to the massive fantasy of "love is all we need".

Naut

I always appreciate your comments.  Glad we agree on Richard Rorty.  We can work on NZ and Socrates,  LOL.  Stand by,  there is lots more philosophy to come here.  I am having fun writing it,  regardless of the number of comments.  It is good practice.

I hope you are doing something fun this weekend.  I am going dirt bike riding!

GM

I really appreciate your efforts! I remember reading some of Rorty's stuff years ago - and I decided then he could not be taken seriously, and certainly should not be. The notion of the primacy of 'consensus' is, in a sense, an abdication - it gives up on philosophy. It's also completely ahistorical - the  very notion harks back to the days when we were beginning to develop language, a bit more or a bit less  than a million years ago. And even in those days, 'when everyone knew everything that could be known', there was some conflict, of course...

Having said all that - I really don't think it is possible to have a truly substantial philosophical discussion here in this venue. It's simply not possible for me to devote the time or patience necesssary (partly due to my poor typing skills) to get into the areas where I disagree with you, and there are those (e.g. I think your reading of Nietzsche is wrong, as is that of Socrates/Plato!), but I do agree on many others, as I know you know, LOL...And I do hope you keep it up; even if people don't comment, maybe some will read and benefit...
