Re: Nautikos

Yes, this is a compilation of thoughts I was able to recall after a discussion with someone about our attending a Catholic grade school; certainly not something that is a part of my everyday life now, or is in my thoughts, nor was it a constant even then. The POV of my child-self expressed here is but a memory to me, and one I had to dig to reach, and chose to share. It was an exercise in the use of a different creative style for me, for lack of a better term, and was written a while back. I could have written a more fluffy, positive poem representative of the same time period, one that would have been more accurate in toto, but definitely even more boring! LOL!

We all have been occasionally reminded of distracting impressions which may intrude into scenarios in our lives, both pleasant and unpleasant, as we can't always find ourselves in situations that are to our liking, for if we did, we would most definitely not be living in a state of cogent reality. Often those distracting impressions become the basis of humor, if you think about it. But, in my opinion, it's how we recognize our specific experiences if and when they become distractions, for what they are/were, and how we then deal with them, if necessary, that determines our state of emotional balance. So, do I like the smell of incense at a church? Nope. Never did, never will! Do I like greasy donuts and thick overly chocolate cocoa? Nope. It's who I am. But it's no biggie. LOL!

RP

This is an interesting poem even for those who, like me, did not experience a strict Catholic upbringing! It is easy to generalize from that specific experience to that of any child and even adult who has distracting impressions intruding into scenarios that demand attention! And often it's those impressions that are the reminders that the sitution in which you find yourself is not entirely to your liking...

Re: Kabu

Thank you. I think people just didn't know then. Now, it does seem very odd, indeed...

I can feel for you RPresta. The ways of man created the way to be redeemed. I know it might seem sinful but you should have carried a cushion discretely of course. I wish I could speak more reverently, but I have to confess I carved my initials and my families into the pillar where I always sat blowing the dust away to escape notice. This is quite an interesting poem.  I am not crawling . You naughty girl.

A poem many, if not all, Catholic kids can relate to.
