I am not surprised. He was quite the afterthought. For Pataki, it was just bad timing for him (and Guiliana for that matter). Obviously, he wasn't going to run against Bush in 2004 in a primary. That would have been his best chance if Bush did not run. In 2008, Huckabee and McCain dominated because they appeal to the particular types of bases thety appeal to.
