It happened long ago, and yet it's still a shock! I love the grandpa for
sheltering the little boy from the worst sights that day - he seems to have been growing up all too quickly without a mine disaster.

mine disasters always seem to me to be such horrible tragedies. they happen so unexoected, so quick. Well written dear one, and what a great Grandpa...going fishing, just what they both needed.

Always that danger of gas in mines, Grandpa had probably seen it happen before. He did the wisest thing .

Terribly sad event but such a wise Grandpa!
It's nice knowing about your Indian ancestry; I have some too (father's side) as I suspect many, many Americans do.
