At some level between Marty and Dad though, they must have lost something, some depth of trust but it is good that they still have a social friendship.

Well perhaps he didn't really mean (Greedy) Unless Dad though friendship should have entitled him to a better deal. Probably though he let off steam and then realized there is no friendship in business/ old proverb.

Very interesting
Narratives are important. And it is amazing the friendship withstood the complexities of business arrangements; a testimony to the character of both men, I think.
