I am looking forward to reading about Uncle Henry.  I was lucky to get to know both my grandfathers quite well.  Well, my mother's father died when she was six so her step-father was the maternal grandfather I knew...and his father was actually alive until I was about 10 or so, and he was a child during the Civil War and used to tell wild tales of his brothers in uniform and battles he witnessed - I still don't know if they were true or not.  All of my grandparents lived until I was well into my teens and so I was very influenced by them and their life stories....I hate that my grandchildren aren't as family influenced - it's a shame because family values and cultures are the heart of this country.

I also do not remember my grandfathers. One died before I was born, and although I have a picture of myslef sitting on the knee of the other one when I was about two, I can't remember him...

I missed really knowing both of my grandpas.  One died before I was born and the other died when I was very small.  I would have liked to know them better personally.  What I do know was all told me by my parents.

we were expected to sit and listen to what our elders said and not to speak umless spoken to.

Naughty Kabu ....I had lots of boy cousins all older than me and I would sneak outside to play...only to be brought back in by mother with a stinging smack on the leg and to sit at Grams feet on a stool.
