Excellent reading, TAPS. It captures some of what nearly every family lived through the generations...I agree with Kabu. This could be a book.

An early ancestor had at least one of her babies in a tent on the Dusty Goldfields of early Australia. What courage these plder generations showed. Another ancestor had 3 wives, as each of the first two including my Great Grandmother. died he married again, mainly to have someone to take care of him and the Children. I think that you are making so many of us remember stories in our families but this really is a book.

One can't help feeling sorry for the women. They seemed to have a rough time, I suppose it was the nature of things. All life was precarious and no one knew what the future would bring.

There's a whole season of "Little House" stories in this one post,
so many dramatic incidents. Well told. And I love the ballad...

TAPS
I just read all of these family history posts and they are just wonderful! I love real stories and for so many of us there are so many threads of commonality....with the Civil War, the wagon rides, the childbirth stories, the deaths, the graves along the way, the slaves that freed become part of the family, the moves from TN,VA,TX,OK,MO,KS,LA and the Canadian immigrants coming down, the Indian stories......I have shared these memories with so many and they are all different enough that they never get old listening to, and enough alike that the connection and affinity is so immediate.
