Yeah
But if we really get into then we know nothing at all about history to be fact. All we know as fact is what we have lived. And there is enough proof about the author of Moby Dick that we are sure Herman Melville wrote it, or at last was the one to take credit for writing it. We are fairly sure it was not written by Ishmael though and I do not believe there are many people who would believe him to be the author if they read it with out knowing who wrote it. Enough people understand the idea of fiction being written in the first person to grasps that. I have often wondered about what is true and what has been changed when it comes to history.

What is basis for thinking that thinking is reliable?

I like much of what you are saying, though my worldview is different. I would offer this bit of critique. Your statement about "so many holy books" is a stretch at best and far too subjective. And the bit about "we know who wrote Moby Dick" is a hoot. Really now, where does your debunking of historical inquiry end? How do we know who wrote it? Did you watch it? I'm thinking not. Circular reasoning is pervasive -- it bit you.

Hey Kooka
Good post. I did the Bible today in God & Consequences. I agree with you. The Bible is a heap of poorly-designed fairy tales treated like the Word of God because the Christian religion depends on Jewish holy texts for its authenticity. And the Jewish texts aren't cooperating, so the Christians have to insist ever louder that the Bible is the Word of God.. it's like an episode of Laugh-In on a cosmic scale. Phew.

good point

Kooka, circular arguements never slove anything, but only serve to reinforce someone's decided views.  You are not insane, but an island of sanity in a sea of the insane.  I hope you read my posts for the day--a bit sarcastic, but sometimes a splash of cold water can wake up the faint of heart or those lost in a coma.

Did you not read my post?
I said I did not think I was going to change anyone's mind about it, so your reply is no surprise to me. I was making a point, not trying to prove anything. You are either going to get something from what I am saying or you are not. If you blindly follow the Bible, you will get nothing. If you are open minded and think logically, you will. If you are in-between it might get you thinking.

I understand what you're trying to say and prove, but you're wrong--plain and simple. And why is it so important for you to "prove" this to others anyway? Hmmm,
