At this time I would say no, it would not help.

Well once they or with one politicion's  wisdom dismantled the train service that ran through our countryside. I suppose cars or lorries were supposed to be a better option.

Now we could use that service tenfold but It would be a job for a private company to cut back through sacred territory. I would imagine it is very expensive to operate train services Bill other than the ones that bring in the gravy.

I feel the answer is no. It is not that I do not believe private ownership would be better. It would be. However, it is too cost prohibitive to build and maintain the infrastructure along with operating passenger train lines. There simply is not a demand for train travel in the United States. Without government help, train lines would have gone the way of an extinct animal a long time ago. Therefore, it is a moot point how well private enterprise could do.

A major change would have to occur. Something would have to move our individual-centered society away from its cars to make it cost effective for trains.
