I have spoken to people about female circumcision...it's basically a way to prevent women from enjoying sex too much so that they remain chaste to their spouse...it might not be this reason in all countries but this is the reason others who live in countries that do it have given me

Re: TAPS,

Apparently Nigeria is one of 15 countries that have banned it.

I confess that I did not go and read the article and that I agree with Kabu.  I've been around for a long time and have read about it more than I wanted.  I am glad that it has at least been banned in one place.  I wonder if they can inforce that ban.

Re: Kabu,

There is nothing in the article, and I don't mean to imply either, that I think in any way that female circumcision is a good idea. I think any routine circumcision is pointless and has no real medical value. The article is more about why it is not so easy to eliminate when we don't understand the problem, or the people who do think it is a good idea. It all comes down to what people believe about the world, and nothing ever has only one motivation or reason behind it.

Sorry love...a hobby horse of mine.

All the papers written by people with a PHD will never convince this old Nurse that female circumcision is a good idea. For men, there can be many reasons why but for a woman No. Our girls wherever they live need to be taught that they are clean, that they have a right to sexual pleasure the same as the other half of humanity, that they are born beautiful, that this is the way they were made, and I who have nursed women who have been circumcised will NEVER accept that this should be encouraged for my sisters.

ceil

judgements should be left for a higher power, and especially when it is in a different culture because we do not understand all the circumstances.  this big issue of same sex marriages i think came about because of all the rights given to married couples, same sex relationships do not enjoy.

maybe instead of same sex marriage we should think of it as a same sex relationship based on love and then just give them the legal rights married couples have.
