I do not see O'Malley winning the election. I am sure that he knows that, too. However, he gets his name out there, and possibly a Cabinet nomination if the the Democratic Candidate (most likely Hillary at this time) wins, setting himself up for a future run where he is a more viable candidate.

O'Malley has to tread carefully here. Having lived in Maryland, I know that he is a nasty campaigner. That can work on a statewide scale, but nationally, Mean Martin, if he shows up, is going to drive a stake through his future political ambitions.

His goal should be to finish in second place. Beating out Sanders, who has a bigger name value, can put into the minds of future donors that he has a future. And I think O'Malley can do it. Those who feel Hillary is too conservative and Sanders too Socialist may find O"Malley appealing.

I don't know much about him but it wouldn't be difficult to be a better candidate

 than Hillary or Bernie Sanders.
