I wonder if posting a beer slogan would have caused as much hassle? What was so bad about what she posted? I do believe her superior had personal issues that this be so serious. Think of the money being spent in court, and how many hungry people could be fed instead. Lunacy.

There are cases that are unconstitutional if anyone would care to challenge them love.

Taps and Annicita

Annicita; The computers in the military are owned by the American Citizenry out of our tax dollars. She is not posting anything contrary to our constitution. We do not have separation of church and state. The military does not have the right.

Taps: Your computers in the hospital belong to the hospital a private entity. They have the right.

That is not a paraphrase, but a different version of the Bible none are in the original Hebrew or Greek as in this case would have been Hebrew.

When I was still working as a nurse, it was a no-no to post Bible verses at the nurses station or to put Bible verses on the company computers.  Isn't that something like being in the service?  One has to be aware at all times what is and what isn't the rules and regulations given by whomever you work for and who pays you your salary.  I would imagine that wherever she had her quarters/bunk she could have posted it there.

I wonder what is going to happen with her court case.

Lance Corporal Monifa Sterling was prosecuted for displaying a slightly paraphrased version of Isaiah 54:17: "No weapons formed against me shall prosper" around her computer while she was stationed at Camp Lejune in North Carolina.

She represented herself at her trial in February last year, citing her right to religious expression under the First Amendment and her protection under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act.

She lost the case and appealed to the Navy-Marine Corps Court of Criminal Appeals, but was told by both courts that displaying a Bible verse did not constitute religious exercise.

According to Fox News she was found guilty of disrespect towards a commissioned officer and failing to go to her appointed place of duty, among other charges.

So actually it was a paraphased not actual quote.  Her superior didn't like it.  I can be told in my job to remove things if my supervisor tells me to do so.

Does she have the right to display religiuos items at work?  Does she have the right to install paraphrased religious sayings on her employer's computer?

We are granted religious freedom and the right to practice our religion.  However, she works for a government entity which has separation of church and state.  It is the government's computer not hers to install said paraphrased quote.

Again I stand back from actually passing comment on what is happening in the USA...but freedom to me means the right to worship God as one pleases. I believe Government should keep their grubby hands out of one's private life unless that life crosses over into destroying someone else's freedom.

Naut

They stand in line with Satan and resist all that is of the Father of the Jews and Christians. They will kill off all other religions if possible. We have not forbid them the right to worship, we do forbid them the right to stop others from worshiping even short of be-heading. No one should stand for that.

The whole thing is very problematic! What happens when you choose to worship al-Lah and the 'prophet'?
