my 24 year old granddaughter has cancer.  she went to a middle school that was next to a chemical dump area........the school was closed after she moved on to high school and the dump area is being "cleaned up"  i would be interested if they know how many students from the middle school ended up with cancer.  it might be next to impossible to find out.

A match factory here emptied the water tank by mistake one day for the matchmaker and thousands of gallons of water with sulphur in it washed into a guys pool a few blocks away.

I talked on the phone with many folks from Tom's River after Sandy.  I think the problems with many of our pollution problems are like all of our problems as humans, repeated throughout human development....we find a benefit for ourselves or our way of life, quickly grow accustomed to the comfort, our busy little minds go to work finding ways to make it bigger, faster, whatever, and we give little thought to whether there are consequences and any voices that might raise those questions are ignored by most, common sense is ignored because comfort is preferred by the many and profit by the quick....and later, when the chickens come home to roost everyone is pointing fingers but I think it isn't so easy to always fix the blame, trace the root cause with any of these issues.  I'm certainly no scientist, just a simple citizen....but I've lived quite awhile, seen a lot of this stuff develop and listened to all the protests....we're all to blame, we've all been there to benefit, we've all contributed, we've all voted or not..JMHO.

Thanks, good post. Disgusting behaviour, which unfortunatley goes on everywhere so that we have the World in a terrible mess and we are supposed to be the custodians for the planet. Keep the posts coming.

I had not heard of Toms River, but I am familiar with problems caused by illegal dumping! We've had our share of that in Ontario as welll, particularly in the Niagara Falls peninsula and in the Sarnia area, near Detroit...
