Yes, Mr. Henning knew the Feds were hot on his trail and he physically dumped them into two different rivers. They figure about 125,000 of them made it into circulation. I've had four in my lifetime and they all have that funky "R" on the back.

I've heard stories like that before, where someone bought something cheaply at some garage sale, only to discover something of great value inside! I'm assuming you read ( or at least glanced through ) those books before you gave them up! You still got a nice price for them. And when you say this Henning guy dumped those coins 'into the river,' you mean they were actually dumped in the river? How were any of them salvaged? They must then be extremely rare . . .
