Re: big v

Oh yes. As a coin dealer, we ran into a number of stories like that. We had one couple who brought in their parents collection in several bags. They were quite disappointed when we made either low offers or no offers (we had a policy that if we told you a coin was only worth face value that we wouldn't even take it. That kept people from thinking we were taking advantage of them by saying they were worthless.) They almost didn't show us the other package but they decided they would and in the 18 coins they laid out, they went home with over $18,500. They saw nothing special in the coins and figured they were worthless. Obviously, they were wrong!

big v

my grandmother collected coins, and when she died she left the house to my older sister.  at the time my mother had been living with her mother and had no where to go so my sis let her stay on.....when my mother died, my younger sister and i were not allowed in the house?????  my mother had been a hoarder and in cleaning out her house my sister by mistake threw out my grandmothers coin collection.  someone going through the trash bin found them.  didnt tell my sister but a neighbor who eventually after the house was sold told my sister. they got several thousand dollars for them was the story.  just thought you might find that interesting.

Yeah, that does sound like fun, sort of like looking for a needle in a haystack, a diamond in the rough, a 'special' penny amongst the 'plain' pennies. Like you said, you never know what you may find . . .

With diligence, one will find what one is looking for.
