Yes well considering one could be sent to Australia for poaching a deer it does seem lenient, but then human life has never been held in great regard in the past. Perhaps the knife was not very sharp. I come from a poaching family, but my forebears did not get caught.

I will post the crime....... in 1899 three boys were sentenced in Clerkenwell for attacking an ice cream Vender (Andreu Barcino) with belts, buckles and sticks.  One of the boys stabbed him in the back with a bread knife.  I think they would get more than three months inside if they committed it today.

Interesting Spid , I wonder what the crime was, three months let me think. Stole a car or in that time a donkey. The punishment seems hard.
