Re: Re: Re:

I can't disagree, Kabu. Apparently, sex does sell, but the news isn't supposed to be 'selling' anything, just reporting on things! Again, it's somewhat difficult to blame the newscasters themselves. It's the producers and directors that seem to be falling down on the job . . .

Re: Re:

perhaps people are sick of so much news coming at them from so many directions....perhaps and unthinkable some of the channels are losing money....Remedy? the only one they know...rely on sex...What they don't get is that a big smile telling one that a human being has been torched to death doesn't fit.

Re: JimmyA

Perhaps not, Sir Wiley. She looks American, but we all know that looks can be deceiving. But then again, who knows what a 'real American' is supposed to be anymore, especially with our society so out-of-whack as it is right now! I guess the news media is simply a reflection of that . . .

Re:

You're so right, TAPS. That's why we have various channels, and the option to change them when we feel the need. I lasted as long as I could with this particular anchor, but I simply can't stand watching her anymore! Next . . .

Re:

I hate to say it, Justi, but I am familiar with Meghan Kelly, and I don't particularly care for her style of reporting either. Like I wrote, I keep my 'news' viewing to a minimum anyway, and don't feel the need to know everyone's thoughts and opinions on every topic! Where's Walter Cronkite when we need him . . . ?

Re:

It does seem extremely insensitive, doesn't it, adnohr? At least when you're reading these stories, your reaction is based on your own emotions. But seeing someone smiling while reporting on deaths and tragedies is somewhat disconcerting . . .

Re:

Thanks, chuck, for seeing this the same way I see it. Like I wrote, she may not have to look grim during these reports, but show at least a little concern over the seriousness of the story! Hopefully someday someone pulls her aside and explains this to her . . .

Re: Jimmy

You're right, Naut, on all counts. Yes, it seems many of these women are selected because of their outward appearance. If they were chosen strictly on their speaking voice, 90% of them would probably not be hired ( at least if I was doing the hiring ). Yeah, ol' Blitzer is a bit of a rube sometimes, but apparently, someone is still watching him! Oh, it's you! Maybe you should e-mail him about that snowflake conundrum . . .

Re:

Unfortunately, FSI, what I've noticed is that, it usually is the female reporters and anchors who do most of that smiling. Why that is I'm not exactly sure. Perhaps they feel they're 'softening the blow' because of the intensity of some of these stories. Regardless, it still seems very insensitive and unprofessional . . .

Re: I've noticed that on our ABC affiliates, too.

You're absolutely right, Pat. I read a newspaper everyday, and tune into the TV news as often as possible, trying to keep abreast of 'current events.' But I can only take so much. Sometimes the 'over-sensationalism' gets to be a bit ridiculous. Tell me what I may need to know, in as serious a manner as possible, then move on. Yeah, the news media in this country leaves a lot to be desired . . .

Re:

I wouldn't think so, Kabu. Growing up, I had always felt that there was a certain air of seriousness to the news that all reporters and journalists were supposed to have. What has happened to that integrity . . . ?

Re:

Good analogy, C C T. It does seem to show a certain air of insensitivity and callousness. Sometimes it appears that some of these people are not being screened properly before being hired for these particular jobs. And whether or not it's exclusive to the Brits, speaking slowly and clearly is not a bad attribute to have . . .

I get the impression that this newscaster isn't a real American?

I won't watch things that aggravate me like that.  There are too many others to pick from.

Man you are on the wrong news cast anyway. Watch Meghan Kelly on FOX the Kelly File, she is good, very good.

I listen to or read news on the internet. Like you, I don't enjoy a smile on someone who is giving us tragic information.

May be she needs a little bit of education from the ABC News. "We don't have to smile on everything." You are right.

Jimmy

Weeel, to me the worst is probably Wolfie, for reasons other than his voice (acceptable) and his suits (ditto). (I do watch CNN in order to know what the current 'party line' is on any given subject, LOL.)

I don't mind the dresses so much - for me it's the voices! I guess because it's television the ladies are picked because of their appearance only, without regard to the quality of their voices! And since I am a great fan of beautiful voices (in my next go-around I'm gonna marry a soprano, LOL), these grate on me...

And yes, ideally all news should be presented in a neutral way, which used to be the case, but hasn't been for eons now...

BTW, I've done a post on snowflakes just for you, LOL, on 'Thoughts'...

I only watch the local news when I volunteer at The Agency. They like watching the news. I have noticed that, too, with some of the anchors smiling. It is not super frequent, but I can see the frequency increasing.

I've noticed that on our ABC affiliates, too.

And I've totally quit watching anything on CNN or its little sister network - nothing but flap and harangue, followed by "ain't it awful" and the sky is falling, repeated on an endless loop 24-7.

The voice and the under dressed empty headed smiling puppet...No I couldn't abide that either.

Jimmy sometimes I used to listen to a USA  finance world news but honestly the girls spoke correctly but so fast that I could not comprehend what they were talking about. Perhaps we speak more slowly here, anyway I can understand your painful viewing  it must be like someone keep laughing at a funeral.
