All extremely valuable tips, and you're right about knowing what "normal" is before knowing what "abnormal" might be! I guess it's like anything else . . . it takes years of experience to consistently know the difference between a 'good' coin' and a 'bad' coin ( not necessarily fake, just bad ). I assume that at least some of the grading is subjective, but it would take a special eye to see these things. For example, the difference between an MS 60 and an MS 70 might be obvious. But the difference between an MS 62 and 63 might be so subtle and so slight that many people may not be able to make the distinction. That's where that experience comes into play. Yes, I'm very interested to understand about the 'fakes' out there as well . . .
