Re:

Something tells me, Corbin, that I would probably be more turned off than enlightened by a show called Catfish! If its premise has anything to do with people assuming 'fake' identities, I'm sure I won't enjoy it . . .

Re: My memory's not good enough to keep up an artificial facade..

I wouldn't think so, Pat. If certain people can't appreciate the 'real you,' then they're probably not worth pursuing in the first place, whether it's for friendship or something more. And you're right . . . sooner or later any bullshit you 'throw' out there can definitely hurt you some time down the road. Why bother . . . ?

Re: JimmyA

No problem there, Sir Wiley. I knew enough not to join the first place! I read all the time about various people, especially those in the public eye, getting crucified over something they posted on FaceBook that they probably thought was private! Why put yourself through that . . . ?

Re:

Right on, Annicita! That's what I say! And I think, deep down, people would ( or should ) appreciate others being 'real' about themselves anyway. Who would want to date a bullshitter in the first place . . . ?

My memory's not good enough to keep up an artificial facade..

Sooner or later the true me is going to show herself. But is it bullshit to try being your best self?

JimmyA

Kabu talked me into Facebook and now I can't get out of the damn site. It locks one in so that there is some kind of programme one has to us to quit or something. Good luck staying out of it.

If people can't handle the real me I sure as hell am not going to reinvent myself to appease them

Re:

I see, Kabu. Now, is that of the Southeast Asian shallots or the Mediterranean shallots? That must be some family tree you have going there, keeping the breath mint people in business . . .

Re:

I know exactly what you mean, TAPS. The problem, it seems to me, with those people is that, once they get rolling, they can never seem to stop! I once knew a guy like that, his whoppers were unbelievable, and after a while, very easy to dismiss. Soon, we just let him go, say whatever he wanted to say, and moved on. It wasn't worth challenging him over it anymore . . .

Re:

I think I know what you mean, C C T. But you're right. Here in Blog-it, everyone joined, introduced themselves, and then dove right in, sharing their thoughts, lives, ideals and opinions. And we've continued ever since. I don't think anyone here had any real reason to bullshit anyone else . . .

Re:

I can see why, FSI. Like I wrote, my wife is on FaceBook just to keep in touch with a niece and nephew, but that's it. She has no desire to 'meet' any new people, and would certainly have no reason to lie about herself on that site! At least here in Blog-it, we are who we are, and everybody knows that. I'm sure there's a little bullshit floating around, but not much . . .

Re:

I'm not quite sure what you mean, Bill, unless you assume a bullfighting ring is completely filled with bullshit. Then I know exactly what you mean . . .

Re: Jimmy

I don't blame you at all, Naut. Apparently that site is good for many people who wish to keep in touch with others who may be scattered about. But if you have to 're-invent' yourself just to get noticed, something's not quite right . . .

Re:

I hope, RASSE, that's you're referring to my complete honesty about myself that's refreshing. If you are, I thank you. Yes, even if I were on FaceBook, I would still not bullshit anyone about who I actually am. We all live in a fantasy world from time to time, but when it starts spilling over into reality . . .

It doesn't take Facebook to change a person into a believer of his/her own lies.  Telling whoppers verbally grows on a person until you don't really want to listen to anything they say.  I have trouble paying attention to anyone who finishes every sentence with "...and I swear I'm not lying."

Well I don't like the idea of instant friendship that seems so addictive to some folk.I mean we all try to be a bit interesting on here.  I think here we respect each other even if at times we could disagree with what is written. We are all more like bridesmaids at a wedding. Well something like that.

I guess that there is something about that virtual reality that is causing people to believe their own  B.S. I am on Facebook but spend very little time there. I enjoy Blogit far more.

One would have to sit in a bullfighting ring to get what I think of Facebook Jimmy.

Jimmy

Another good reason why I'm not on (or in?)FB - I can't be bothered to invent stories about myself, and I'm not interested in those of others...

Nothing wrong with that at all.  Its actually very refreshing.
